SEMA TO TAKE PRO-INDUSTRY MESSAGE TO LAWMAKERS IN SACRAMENTO
Don’t Be Left Out—Register Now!

California SEMA members will converge onto the state capitol in Sacramento to help educate state lawmakers on the importance of the $34 billion automotive specialty-equipment industry to the state economy, and the impact of government initiatives on the industry’s continued viability. The association’s first-ever state legislative rally on Wednesday, May 23, will feature SEMA members and California state lawmakers meeting face-to-face on significant state issues, including the governor’s proposed universal health-care plan, emissions standards and vehicle scrappage issues.

“Working with the California Legislature in recent years, SEMA has sought legislation to mitigate car-crusher programs, supported efforts to create favorable emissions system certification criteria for kit cars and replicas and created a statewide exhaust noise-testing program that allows vehicle owners to prove compliance with the state’s 95-decibel limit,” said Steve McDonald, SEMA vice president of government affairs. “We have also worked on a series of business issues, such as providing support to the governor in his recent effort to modify the state’s worker’s comp program.”

McDonald also stated, “These critical accomplishments would not be possible without the relationships we have developed with California legislators over the years. It is now critical that we further increase awareness of our industry by state legislators and signal our intention to contribute to the debate with regard to significant state issues.”

The SEMA Sacramento agenda includes a briefing by SEMA staff, meetings with lawmakers and a reception. Members can learn more about and register for the event by contacting Steve McDonald at stevem@sema.org or 202/783-6007, ext. 31.
